TWR in China
TWR began its first broadcasts in Asia from shortwave transmitters on Guam, beginning with China in 1977. Since then, listeners have been able to listen to TWR’s broadcasts not only on shortwave, but over the Internet, and on portable audio players. Over the years, TWR extended its focus in China from purely broadcasting programs. Partnerships were developed with other agencies and churches, both in-country and overseas. This resulted in an integrated ministry today, where a combination of media tools (i.e. online e-learning, internet broadcasts, portable audio players, shortwave radios, CDs/DVDs, printed literature, Bibles) and on-site ministry teams are used to minister to the people.
One of the mainstays of the ministry in China is the Radio Church Kit (RCK), also known as Radio Church Packages (RCP). Initiated in 1994 as a supplementary tool to ongoing broadcasts, it is aimed at helping believers grow in sound Biblical doctrine. Each kit contains a shortwave radio, a study Bible, a set of study materials titled Self-Confrontation and a set of Discipleship On The Air textbooks.
Seminary on the Air (SOTA) is another key area of ministry, and continues to be well-received by in-country students who hunger for the Word. SOTA aims to provide seminary training to pastors and lay-leaders in rural areas who would otherwise not have the chance for any theological training.
To meet the needs of the growing Internet population, the Chinese Internet Ministry seeks to use this huge opportunity for reaching the tech-savvy in China. To find out more about the programs that TWR airs in China, and to listen to webcasts, visit www.ktwr.net and www.abc111.net
