Answering the Door When Christ Knocks
June 16, 2014
North Africa — As I have already told you about my father, he called himself atheistic. He said he did not believe in God, that God does not exist. When he said that, I asked him, “Of what kind of god do you speak?” He answered me, “There are 46,000 gods in the world, and one does not know which one is true. Since my childhood I believed in the god of the religion of my country and in his prophet. But all the time I have been unraveled, all alone. This god had not brought me the least help in the world.”
I replied to my father, “This is because the god of the religion of your country is only a divinity among these 46,000 gods. On the other hand, the true God is God the Father. The path that leads toward him is Jesus.”
While discussing these matters with my father, the hour came for your program. I told him, “Come, let us listen to the program on TWR, and we again shall see clearer.”
By God’s providence, that evening the program was about the apocalypse! We listened to Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” My father marveled when you explained that Christ wants to become a family member of the one who opens the door of his heart and house to the Lord. The phrase “I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me” means that I do not have anything to offer to Jesus; on the contrary, it is he himself who brings all sorts of blessings into our house.
My father was very touched by the explanation that you gave of Revelation 3:20. He said, “I cannot do otherwise than to open the door of my heart and my house to Jesus.” Now our house is open to the Lord and has become a house of meditation of the word of God!
I exhort you, my dear friends, to continue to explain God’s word for your listeners, because it is very important. Stay in the peace of the Lord.
