Colombia — Without a doubt, J. Vernon McGee’s Thru the Bible is among the most loved of the manifold programs broadcast by TWR in more than 230 languages around the world.

Many listeners complete one five-year cycle of the late Dr. McGee’s “bus trip” through the entire Bible and immediately climb aboard for another tour. And as this message from a listener in Colombia exemplifies, it’s not unusual for the Bible-study habit to be handed down in families.

I remember when I was just a child a sound which woke me up between 4 and 5 a.m.: my dad listening on an old radio to your teachings. The sound went up and down. It was not the best signal, but he never quit listening to you daily, to a station that was not even Colombian but that the radio managed to pick up.

I do not know how, but that radio let him come to know you. My father contacted you and received some booklets that at that time were a great blessing for his spiritual growth. After a time, the station was not possible to hear and the information stopped coming.

But this year or last, after more than 20 years, it was possible to listen to your messages again because technology has evolved. Today I can write a message of thanks for the great fulfillment of your mission to go and make disciples of all nations through the radio.

I, the child who could not sleep, remember how much my father struggled for the Word, and today at nearly 78 years of age, with the same recorder, he goes out to the curb of the house and puts on the programs and listens and shares the Word with the people in the neighboring houses. Today, that child is almost 31 … and has the desire to receive books and outlines to share with my father and those with whom we meet in a cell group. There are many testimonies that I have.

As soon as you answer this mail, I will send you my photo and one of my father with his recorder. Thank you for your blessings.

In spite of decades of guerrilla activity in the interior of Colombia, radio signals have enabled the gospel to reach where pastors and missionaries could not safely travel. Our national partner, RTM Colombia (RTM is the Spanish translation of TWR), has received numerous reports of guerrillas receiving salvation as a result of the broadcasts.
