TWR-Asia: Nepal

Our Response

Even though an administrative office was set up in 2004, TWR had a presence in Nepal since 2000. Since then, God has multiplied TWR’s ministry, and has helped TWR play a significant role in bringing His Word to the people, as well as assisting, equipping, nourishing and making disciples in the local churches. Through TWR’s broadcasts, many people have been led to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and Bible study and prayer groups have been formed.

Radio broadcasts serve an important and critical role in Nepal as many first generation pastors and church leaders have never been to a seminary. In 2006, God first opened the door to the local FM stations. Currently, TWR broadcasts programs focusing on children, women and church leadership and development in Nepal via more than 25 local FM stations, even to places such as prisons. With 11 committed staff-members and 10 regular volunteers in Nepal, TWR is fulfilling its mission and vision through partnerships with like-minded churches, organizations and individuals across Nepal.

In the last three years, 485 people were brought to the Lord, and 146 were baptized. Also, 12 new churches were planted and 25 Bible study groups were formed. With the help of the Holy Spirit, TWR has played – and is still playing – a vital role in Nepal to meet the needs of the people by guiding them, teaching them, and bringing them the life-changing message of God’s Word.

TWR is also assisting local church leaders in shepherding their flock, and currently helps oversee nine churches and 25 Bible study groups. About five to 10 listeners and seekers are linked up with churches each month. Once these churches and Bible study groups are self-sustaining, TWR hands over the overall running to the church or other Christian organizations. Since this effort began, TWR has handed over seven churches and 13 Bible study groups.

Gatherings are also held twice a month for listeners of Women of Hope, with up to 300 listeners attending, the majority of whom are from non-Christian backgrounds. Some of them walk up to eight hours just to get to these gatherings, which show their thirst for God’s word. 22 prayer groups have also been formed for women in Nepal to get together regularly to share their problems and pray for one another.

TWR also reaches the community by helping 128 women aged 15 to 65 years learn to read and write through two adult literacy centers. In addition, more than one hundred unemployed women are also being trained in tailoring and sewing in centers that are run by TWR-assisted churches. Informal schooling is also being given to 25 underprivileged children in a slum area.
