TWR-Asia: Vietnam

Our Response

TWR began trial broadcasts in Vietnam in 1998. After two years of successful trials, TWR officially formed a team in Vietnam in 2000, and increased the number of programs broadcast into the country, as well as airtime. Due to restrictions on religious broadcasting, TWR uses shortwave broadcasts from transmitters on Guam to reach the Vietnamese. The ministry focus is primarily to preach the gospel to the Vietnamese, disciple new believers, and help church leaders learn the Bible in a systematic manner.

Since the ministry began, TWR has distributed about 7,000 radios in Vietnam. The radios are distributed to those who are unable to afford one, but who are committed to listening to the Word of God, and growing spiritually. These radios are a complement to the programs, and are essential in forming listener groups. In central Vietnam, about 1,000 listener groups have been formed so far. These groups come together to listen to God’s Word on radios, cassettes, or CDs.

TWR works with about 100 churches and 25 volunteer coordinators located across Vietnam. These coordinators are mostly church leaders who see the benefit of TWR’s programs, and who are willing to participate in promoting the programs, form listener groups, or distribute radios. TWR also partners other organizations to better reach the listeners, and specific audience groups.

To help Vietnamese believers grow in their faith, and to help them learn the Word of God, TWR teaches the Bible systematically and topically through programs such as Thru the Bible, Mini Bible College, Leading the Way, and The Word Today.

Project Hannah in Vietnam seeks to meet the needs of women in the country. The Women of Hope program is aired twice a week, and the feedback received indicates the impact on the listeners and their families. 350 Project Hannah prayer groups have also been formed across Vietnam to give women a chance to meet, support, and pray for one another as well as women in need around the world.

To reach the children, TWR’s ministry in Vietnam came up with a home-grown program Bamboo Shoots. This program is a series of Bible stories and topics that are catered to children, with lessons on life application.

TWR continues to faithfully share the gospel with the Vietnamese, to transform lives. From feedback received, we are aware that many listeners who came to know Christ have given up drinking, gambling, drugs, and domestic violence.
